BFGoodrich KM3 vs Mickey Thompson Baja Boss M/T
The Baja Boss lists more tread than the KM3 in every size we have — up to 22/32″ — the deepest figure in our data, shared only with the Cooper STT Pro. It is also listed a load range lower in two sizes, which changes what its lighter weight means.

What the published data supports
Mickey Thompson lists deeper tread in every matched size: 19/32″ against 18/32″ in LT285/70R17, rising to 22/32″ against 18/32″ in 37×12.50R17. It also states its sidewall construction — Powerply XD three-ply — where BFGoodrich publishes no ply count.
But in 33×12.50R17 and 35×12.50R17 the Baja Boss is listed in Load Range D, where the KM3 is Load Range E. In those sizes it is lighter partly because it is built to carry less. In LT285/70R17 and 37×12.50R17, where both share a load range, the picture is mixed.

Construction and claims are each manufacturer’s own. Size rows are from the tiresize specification pages. Two of the four size rows compare different load ranges and are marked so.
Where the published data favours the BFGoodrich
Load range in the two middle sizes. In 33×12.50R17 the KM3 carries 3,085 lb at 65 psi against the Baja Boss’s 2,600 lb at 50; in 35×12.50R17, 3,195 lb against 3,000 lb. If you are loading the truck, the Baja Boss’s lower weight in those sizes comes with lower capacity.
Claims with a stated baseline. BFGoodrich measures its 5%, 8% and 27% figures against the KM2. Mickey Thompson’s “50% heavier denier cord” states no comparison point, so there is no way to know what it is 50% heavier than.
A written warranty term: the life of the usable tread or six years. We found none stated on the Baja Boss product page.
In 37×12.50R17, where both are Load Range D, the KM3 is 1.6 lb lighter.
Where the published data favours the Baja Boss
Depth, in every size: 1/32″ more in LT285/70R17, 3/32″ more in 33×12.50R17 and 35×12.50R17, and 4/32″ more in 37×12.50R17. Its 22/32″ ties the Cooper STT Pro for the deepest tread figure in our data.
A stated ply count. Mickey Thompson publishes Powerply XD three-ply construction for sidewall puncture resistance. BFGoodrich does not publish a ply count for the KM3 at all.
In LT285/70R17, where both are Load Range E at the same rating, the Baja Boss is 3.1 lb lighter and 1/32″ deeper.
What the evidence does not establish
Neither has been measured against the other in public, for traction, noise or wear.
The two sidewall claims cannot be compared. BFGoodrich’s is against its own predecessor; Mickey Thompson’s gives no baseline at all.
Mickey Thompson says its tread is optimised for reduced noise but publishes no figure; BFGoodrich publishes nothing on noise. Neither carries 3PMSF.
