The Toyo costs $169.72 more per tire in LT285/70R17 — $678.88 across a set. For that, the published data shows 2/32″ more tread in the flotation sizes, Load Range E in 33×12.50R17 where the Milestar is D, the highest composite retailer rating in our set, and a manufacturer that states its snow position outright.

Where the published data favours the Milestar

Price, by the widest margin in our tracker: 61% of the Toyo’s price, $169.72 a tire less.

Mass, in every size: 1.8 lb lighter in LT285/70R17, 4.9 lb in 33×12.50R17, and 10.2 lb in 37×12.50R17 — 41 lb of unsprung, rotating mass across a set of 37s.

In LT285/70R17, the most common size here, the two carry the identical Load Range E rating and the Milestar lists marginally deeper tread, 19/32″ against 18.9/32″.

Where the published data favours the Toyo

Depth in the flotation sizes: 21/32″ against 19/32″ in both 33×12.50R17 and 37×12.50R17.

Load range in 33×12.50R17: Load Range E at 3,085 lb against the Milestar’s Load Range D at 2,600 lb. Some of the Milestar’s weight advantage in that size is the lower load range.

Third-party signal and disclosure. The Toyo carries the highest composite retailer rating in our set, 9.3, and Toyo is the only manufacturer in the tracker that states where its tire stops in snow. Neither is a test result, but both are more than the Milestar publishes.

What the evidence does not establish

Whether the price gap buys measurable performance. No independent test covers both tires, and neither publishes wear, noise or traction figures a buyer could compare.

The composite rating is a retailer’s, not a laboratory measurement. The Milestar is not rated on that scale at all, so the absence of a score is not a low score.

Neither carries a treadwear warranty or 3PMSF certification.

Which matters for your use case

If price and mass decide it, the Milestar is $679 cheaper across a set and lighter in every size.

If you run 33×12.50R17 and need Load Range E, only the Toyo is listed in that load range.

If you want the most depth in a flotation size, the Toyo lists 2/32″ more.

If you want the strongest third-party signal available, the Toyo carries it — with the caveat that it is a retailer composite.
